Job Description
Senior DevOps Engineer designing and scaling Azure infrastructure for Encoura, a higher-education technology company. Automating deployments, improving reliability, and supporting real-time student and institutional systems.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop processes and systems enhancing Encoura’s Azure cloud environment for monitoring, optimization, automation, data maintenance, and security tooling
- Build and manage infrastructure using Terraform
- Provide day-to-day operational support for applications on Azure
- Integrate development projects into production and test Azure environments and ensure ongoing support
- Lead security, reliability, and scalability efforts throughout the development lifecycle
- Provide input on design and Azure-related considerations and options
- Gain functional knowledge of supported applications and troubleshoot the product stack
- Build engineering automation and productivity tools to streamline and scale production applications
- Troubleshoot and resolve application development, deployment, and operations issues
- Architect and implement reliable, highly scalable Azure infrastructure services
- Serve in an on-call rotation as an escalation contact for critical production issues
- Work with development teams to stand up the technology stack, improve systems, and diagnose operational issues
- Develop strategic roadmaps for architecture, operations, and capabilities
- Continue developing Azure certifications and education and inform development team members
Requirements:
- BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent, or a Bachelor’s in an unrelated field with at least 5 years of professional experience
- 5+ years of experience in DevOps
- 3+ years using Azure core services
- Experience installing, configuring, and managing database platforms and Azure-managed database services, including Azure SQL Database, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and MongoDB Atlas
- Demonstrated expertise using Terraform, Azure Bicep, and Azure Resource Manager templates
- Strong understanding of Azure billing and cost modelling
- Experience with build and release automation tools and methodologies
- Ability to design, deploy, monitor, and manage Kubernetes-based systems
- Familiarity with microservice architecture and its implementation in Azure
- Infrastructure as Code experience and ability to lead transformation from manual Azure management
- Strong scripting and automation skills
- Ability to use AI tools to vet ideas, validate work, and help automate tasks
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting, securing, and improving manually configured Azure environments
- Experience with Application Performance Monitoring and log aggregation at scale
- Experience supporting application development teams using Agile/Scrum/Kanban
- CLEAR™ identity verification required as part of pre-employment screening
- TeamCity experience is a plus
- Background in multi-cloud operations between AWS and Azure preferred
- Current and relevant Azure cloud certifications preferred
