Job Description
Product Counsel guiding product, privacy, security, and open-source legal strategy for Neo4j’s graph intelligence platform. Enabling compliant innovation across enterprise software, cloud, and AI products.
Responsibilities:
- Partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, Security, and Go-To-Market teams
- Ensure products are designed, built, and delivered in compliance with applicable laws and aligned with risk tolerance
- Serve as the primary legal partner for product and engineering teams across cloud, on-prem, and hybrid offerings
- Advise on legal issues throughout the product development lifecycle, including feature design, data flows, APIs, integrations, and platform architecture
- Review and help shape product requirements, specifications, and launch plans to proactively manage legal risk
- Advise on open-source software usage, contributions, and licensing models
- Support compliance with open-source obligations and guide inbound and outbound licensing strategies
- Partner with engineering and security on OSS governance and tooling
- Provide guidance on privacy and data protection matters, including GDPR, CCPA, and global data transfer frameworks
- Advise on product-embedded privacy features, security controls, and data-handling practices
- Partner with Security, Trust, and Compliance teams on incident response, customer security inquiries, and audits
- Support product-led go-to-market initiatives
- Help develop scalable legal frameworks enabling enterprise sales, self-serve, and cloud motions
- Monitor emerging laws and regulations affecting enterprise software, AI, data, and cloud services
- Identify and assess legal risks and propose mitigation strategies
- Contribute to internal policies, guidelines, and playbooks
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior product and engineering leaders
- Educate and empower non-legal stakeholders through training and pragmatic guidance
- Help scale legal processes for a fast-growing, global organization
Requirements:
- JD or equivalent law degree; licensed and in good standing in at least one jurisdiction
- 10+ years of relevant legal experience, with a significant focus on product, technology, or commercial matters
- Experience supporting enterprise software, cloud services, or developer-focused products
- Strong working knowledge of software licensing and SaaS models
- Strong working knowledge of open-source licensing concepts
- Strong working knowledge of privacy and data protection frameworks
- Ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, actionable guidance for technical and non-technical audiences
- In-house experience at a B2B SaaS or open-source company preferred
- Familiarity with database technologies, developer platforms, or infrastructure software preferred
- Experience with AI/ML, data platforms, or regulated enterprise customers preferred
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, globally distributed organization preferred
