Job Description
Senior Engineering Manager modernizing engineering practices at The Princeton Review, a tutoring and test-prep company. Leading managers and engineers across CI/CD, AI-assisted development, and scalable software delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute hands-on to code, architecture, and technical design while leading the team, targeting a 40/60 individual-contributor/management split
- Design and implement CI/CD, automated testing, code review, feature flagging, and static code analysis practices
- Champion responsible adoption of AI-assisted development
- Build and develop a high-performing engineering team through coaching, feedback, and career development
- Implement clear expectations, ceremonies, and standards
- Foster psychological safety, collaboration, and continuous learning
- Mentor engineers toward sustainable end-to-end system ownership
- Support delivery from conception through production support while meeting quarterly deadlines
- Build scalable, maintainable software
- Partner with Product and Design to translate business goals into technical plans
- Communicate across technical and non-technical audiences and manage dependencies
- Drive measurable improvements in engineering KPIs
- Report to the VP Engineering
- Initially manage up to 8 engineers and help establish the first layer of engineering management
Requirements:
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
- 3+ years of people management experience leading engineering teams
- Experience operating with real CI/CD, automated testing, and short release cycles
- Demonstrated results in C# .NET, React, cloud native systems design, and/or modern CI/CD tool chains / Platform Engineering
- Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools
- Track record of driving process improvements in CI/CD, testing, quality assurance, or other SDLC process toolchains
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with tactical execution
- Experience developing and coaching engineers
- Clear and empathetic communication across diverse stakeholders
- Sound judgment balancing scope, quality, speed, and long-term technical health
- Collaborative, inclusive leadership that creates psychological safety
- Ownership and accountability for individual and team outcomes
