Job Description
Senior HVAC Engineer designing ventilation, heating, chilled-water, and control-room systems for Sargent & Lundy’s nuclear engineering projects. Supporting facility designs, technical studies, and automation-enabled workflows.
Responsibilities:
- Design HVAC systems
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve a wide variety of HVAC engineering issues
- Meet with others to develop integrated HVAC systems, including commercial/industrial ventilation, control room HVAC, laboratory HVAC, chilled water systems, and heating systems
- Support planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating detailed design phases of facility engineering work
- Perform design calculations and develop detailed system designs
- Prepare technical specifications for HVAC equipment
- Prepare engineering studies
- Support engineers, project managers, client personnel, and suppliers to ensure complete and timely designs
- Assist senior engineers in reviewing existing facilities and proposing upgrades and replacements
- Present findings and recommendations to clients and peers when needed
- Lead or oversee automation and process-improvement work, including engineering calculations, technical document summaries, and design documentation
- Review outputs from engineers programming or scripting tools such as Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel
Requirements:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program is required
- 5+ years of relevant HVAC system, ventilation systems, heating systems, and chilled water system design experience for laboratory and/or industrial facilities
- Proficiency in TRACE 700 or Carrier HAP
- Ability to create design flow diagrams and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Prior knowledge of relevant codes and standards applicable to HVAC and ventilation systems
- Familiarity with ASHRAE and current HVAC industry codes and standards
- Willingness or ability to lead others using modern tools, automation, and AI to improve workflows
- AutoCAD, CADME, MicroStation, PE license, and ASHRAE Membership are valued but not required
- Additional learning or experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields is valued
