Job Description
Senior Legal Counsel advising Product and Engineering at TRM Labs, which provides AI-powered blockchain intelligence solutions. Guiding data, AI/ML, IP, privacy, and product regulatory decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as legal partner to Product and Engineering across TRM's product portfolio
- Advise Blockchain Intelligence and Data teams on data collection, sourcing, licensing, and permissible use of first- and third-party data
- Counsel on AI/ML feature development and deployment, including model training, data inputs and outputs, transparency, and emerging AI regulations
- Advise on product-related intellectual property ownership, licensing, and open-source use
- Draft and refine terms of service, acceptable use policies, data terms, and customer-facing product documentation
- Partner with Privacy Counsel on privacy, data protection, technical architectures, data flows, legal risk, data minimization, and regulatory compliance
- Identify legal and regulatory risks and recommend practical mitigations
- Build scalable legal frameworks, playbooks, and self-service resources
- Collaborate with Legal team members on regulatory matters, commercial agreements, and special projects
- Report to the Assistant General Counsel and participate in roadmap reviews, specification discussions, and launch-readiness processes
Requirements:
- J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school
- Active bar membership in good standing of at least one U.S. state bar
- 6–8 years of legal experience at a reputable law firm and/or in-house at a technology company, with a substantial focus on product counseling
- Experience advising Product and Engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle
- Working knowledge of data use and licensing, intellectual property, AI/ML, consumer-facing terms, GDPR, and CCPA/CPRA
- Strong commercial instincts and ability to provide practical business-oriented legal advice
- Ability to operate in ambiguous, cross-jurisdictional environments and manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines with minimal supervision
- Clear, direct communication skills and executive presence with senior stakeholders, external partners, and outside counsel
- Comfort with AI tooling and integrating it into legal workflows
- Experience advising companies serving government or financial institution customers is a plus
- Familiarity with blockchain, cryptocurrency, or fintech is a plus
