Job Description

Senior Platform Engineer developing innovative solutions for Kaufland's international online marketplaces. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance platform services and developer efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • You act not just as a tool provider, but as a proactive partner to development teams, identifying user needs and priorities and delivering value-driven solutions that improve team efficiency
  • Our team takes responsibility for several critical platform services, including GitLab, Vault, and Datadog. Together with your team, you ensure these systems are always up-to-date and secure
  • Your mission is to make our platform as simple and seamless to use as possible for our developers. For example, our team will deliver Backstage as a single entry point for developers to explore platform capabilities
  • You actively contribute to implementing custom features in Go and TypeScript based on user needs
  • By making systems observable and providing clear guidelines and training, you enable Platform and Product teams to make confident, fast decisions and help reduce Mean Time To Detect (MTTD)

Requirements:

  • You have strong experience in application development (Go; TypeScript is a plus) and a solid understanding of distributed systems design
  • You know how to build high-quality, easy-to-maintain software and can support development teams by reviewing their code and understanding their goals
  • You have a strong understanding of infrastructure components (Terraform, Ansible, Helm, Kubernetes) and CI/CD workflows
  • You are capable of maintaining and upgrading critical system components
  • You prefer simple, high-impact solutions, avoid overengineering, and deliver incremental improvements that meet real developer needs
  • You embrace AI-driven development and use modern AI tools to increase your efficiency so you can focus on problem solving and high-quality delivery in a fast-paced environment
  • You are fluent in English (C1) and enjoy working in an international environment.

Benefits:

  • Create your own work–life balance: Choose to work remotely (within Germany) or from one of our locations in Cologne, Darmstadt, Düsseldorf, or Berlin
  • Relocation support: If you want to move to Germany, we offer an attractive relocation package to help you get started smoothly
  • Fitness benefits: Urban Sports Club and RSG Group fitness studios—access deals for fitness classes, swimming, yoga, and more
  • Mental well-being: Access to services such as Instahelp, a digital platform for online psychological counseling
  • Vacation & sabbatical: 30 days of vacation per year and the option to take a sabbatical after a qualifying period
  • Pluxee restaurant vouchers: Option to purchase Pluxee vouchers and benefit from tax-advantaged meal allowances
  • Deutschlandticket subsidy: We subsidize your train season ticket for greater mobility
  • Employee discount: Monthly coupon for Kaufland.de
  • Choice of operating system: Work on macOS or Ubuntu Linux—your choice
  • Professional development: Benefit from online language programs, diverse internal training, automated 360° feedback, and coverage for relevant conferences, training, and approved team workshops to support personal growth
