Job Description
Senior Software Engineer building backend services for Veriff’s AI-powered identity verification platform. Integrating authoritative data sources and strengthening global trust signals.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and operate Trust backend services integrating external identity data sources
- Expand global coverage by onboarding new countries and data sources
- Build abstractions that make future integrations more efficient
- Model inconsistent upstream data into consistent verification results
- Develop matching and validation rules for identity data
- Design resilient systems with timeouts, retries, idempotency, backpressure, circuit breaking, graceful degradation, compatibility testing, SPOF elimination, and monitoring
- Handle sensitive personal data with regional residency and compliance requirements
- Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and postmortems
- Drive engineering quality through code reviews, CI practices, runbooks, and mentoring
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience building large-scale backend applications with Python, including event-driven and async architectures with message queues (e.g. SQS, RabbitMQ, or similar)
- Hands-on experience integrating with third-party APIs at scale
- Proven ownership of production-critical services and on-call responsibilities
- Deep experience designing resilient distributed systems, including idempotency, retries, backpressure, timeouts, and backwards compatibility
- Strong data modelling skills
- Strong understanding of modular design approaches and SOLID principles
- Hands-on experience building scalable, maintainable APIs
- Proficiency in testing strategies for robust and reliable software, including testing external dependencies
- Solid understanding of relational database fundamentals
- Familiarity with structured logging and observability practices
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with Product, Compliance, and external data providers
