Job Description
Software Engineer II responsible for analysis, design, implementation, and testing in various domains including finance and e-commerce. Collaborating with a diverse team to maintain mission-critical applications.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze & Design -- Ensure business and requirements artifacts are created that effectively model the customer's requirements. Will use industry best practices and tools, and will use established patterns and/or recommend new design patterns.
- Implement & Perform -- Implement designs following Pearson coding standards and industry best practices; maintain and support mission-critical applications as necessary.
- Review -- Participate in and lead requirement, design code, and test case reviews
- Test & Deploy -- Work closely with other teams (e.g., QA, configuration management, end users) to release high quality software. Create testable code that meets requirements, and ensure automated unit, integration and functional tests are created.
- Improve Quality/Processes -- Participate in group improvement activities and initiatives to improve process and product quality in pursuit of excellence
- Document and Report -- Complete project documentation as required, including logging status, risk, progress, and effort on assigned work
- People development – Mentor and train new team members; actively collaborate with others within and outside of the team
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent technology discipline
- 3+ years minimum Java development required
- 1+ years programmatic interaction with relational database systems
- Current technology stack: Java, JPA, Hibernate, Web Services (REST/SOAP), AngularJS, JQuery
- Experience in OOAD, agile processes, design patterns, SQL and UML
- Experience working in agile environment highly preferred
- Experience in creating design documents, performing code reviews and test driven development
- Desire to expand knowledge in many development languages, applications, and tools
- Proven ability to quickly learn new processes and tools, business domains and technical applications
- Ability to think technically and analytically
- Ability to understand philosophy of architecture
- Must assimilate information, distill knowledge, apply experience and provide solution alternatives and recommendations
- Must have strong time management skills - including ability to work well under pressure, plan, set priorities, adapt to change, and meet established timelines
- Must develop effective relationships with internal and external contacts and work well within a team
- Must be a self-starter and detail-oriented
- Must have a “positive” and energetic demeanor
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Creative problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of OWASP Top 10
- Experience with some or all of the following tools (Required): Java SE and EE (3 - 5 years), AngularJS (and other Javascript frameworks such as jQuery), Spring (1 - 2 years), Web Services (SOAP/REST) (1 - 2 years), SQL (3+ years), Requirements & analysis experience, OOAD design, Agile development, Design patterns, Security protocols, cryptography, authentication and security standards
- Experience with some or all of the following (Preferred): JPA, Hibernate, Python (1 year) - machine learning, Swing, Tomcat, Jersey, SQL Server (Transact-SQL), Liquibase, Machine Learning / AI, Secure programming practices
