Job Description
Staff full-stack engineer shaping Capital One’s cloud banking technology through microservices, event-driven platforms, and API strategy. Mentoring engineers and driving enterprise architecture modernization.
Responsibilities:
- Articulate and evangelize a bold technical vision for the domain
- Decompose complex problems into practical and operational solutions
- Ensure the quality of technical design and implementation
- Serve as an authoritative expert on performance, scalability, operability, and other non-functional system characteristics
- Continue learning and inject advanced technical knowledge into the engineering community
- Handle multiple projects simultaneously and maximize impact
- Mentor engineers and strengthen the technical expertise of engineering and product communities
- Modernize monolithic systems into microservice architectures and event-driven platforms
- Collaborate with senior engineering and architecture leaders on long-term platform strategy and API standards
- Balance hands-on technical contribution and innovation with mentoring and elevating peers and junior engineers
- Lead cross-divisional projects promoting technological best practices and enhancements
- Create communications, code samples, blog posts, and other materials to share knowledge internally and externally
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
- At least 7 years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture, enterprise architecture and design patterns, cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud), and data architecture
- Capital One will consider sponsoring a new qualified applicant for employment authorization
- Preferred: Master's Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
- Preferred: 10+ years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture, enterprise architecture and design patterns, web technologies, distributed HPC and ML systems, cloud computing, and data architecture
- Preferred: 10+ years of professional coding experience in Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, or Scala
- Preferred: 8+ years of experience with databases and database management systems
- Preferred: 10+ years of professional experience across the full system development lifecycle
- Preferred: 8+ years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies
- Preferred: 10+ years of experience with networking protocols and third-party distributed-system integration
- Preferred: 5+ years of experience mentoring senior engineers and driving professional development within technical teams
- Preferred: 2+ years of experience leading cross-domain architectural reviews and establishing coding and design standards
- Preferred: Expertise in strategically applying agentic AI coding tools
