Job Description
Staff Software Engineer owning Coinbase’s developer infrastructure platforms. Improving CI, build, deployment speed, reliability, and developer productivity across thousands of engineers.
Responsibilities:
- Own core developer infrastructure platforms, including CI/build systems and deployment orchestration, from design through production operation
- Identify high-leverage problems and turn ambiguous challenges into concrete technical roadmaps
- Drive improvements to build and CI wall time, deploy speed and safety, and developer feedback latency
- Lead strategic cross-cutting initiatives, including large-scale platform migrations, across many teams
- Own SLOs, observability, and on-call for developer infrastructure
- Design systems that recover quickly and avoid company-wide incidents
- Partner with engineering customers, engineering managers, and leadership to shape technical strategy and drive organization-wide adoption
- Mentor engineers through design review, pairing, and shared ownership
Requirements:
- 8+ years building and operating production distributed systems
- Hands-on proficiency in Go or a comparable systems language
- Direct experience in CI/CD, build systems, or deployment tooling
- Track record of designing and shipping high-impact backend or platform systems
- Experience owning systems from ambiguous problem statements through long-term production operation
- Demonstrated technical leadership on cross-team initiatives
- Experience setting architectural direction and driving organization-wide alignment
- Deep operational expertise with production systems where downtime has a broad blast radius
- Experience designing for reliability, observability, and fast recovery
- Ability to drive alignment on ambiguous, cross-functional problems
- Ability to raise the technical bar through mentorship and design review
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight
