Job Description
2D Technical Director building Toon Boom Harmony pipelines and automation tools for Glitch Productions. Owning technical infrastructure for its animation studio as the division scales.
Responsibilities:
- Define and lead the pipeline, tooling, and best practices for 2D production
- Own 2D tooling, workflow optimization, pipeline integration, and standards
- Clear the backlog of scene setup automation, animatic import tooling, and version management integration requests
- Design, build, and maintain pipeline tools primarily around Toon Boom Harmony
- Integrate 2D workflows with Autodesk Flow (formerly ShotGrid) and the wider studio pipeline
- Automate repetitive setup, import, and versioning tasks
- Work with 2D artists, leads, and production planning to translate pain points into tooling
- Support and troubleshoot 2D-specific technical issues
- Document tools and establish workflow conventions
- Collaborate with 3D TDs and the wider tech team on shared pipeline standards
- Shape and build the 2D technical team as the division grows
Requirements:
- Strong QT script (Javascript) and Python development skills in an animation pipeline context
- Hands-on experience building tools for Toon Boom Harmony or equivalent 2D animation software
- Proven ability to work with artists and production staff to translate needs into working tools
- Experience owning technical decisions as the sole TD in a domain
- Experience working within a structured production planning process
- Experience with production tracking integration, ideally ShotGrid
- Senior pipeline developer experience with genuine 2D expertise
- Experience as a TD or pipeline developer in a 2D animation studio (bonus)
- Familiarity with Storyboard Pro and animatic workflows (bonus)
- Experience mentoring or leading junior developers (bonus)
- Exposure to broader studio pipelines, including 3D, compositing, and editorial (bonus)
- Authorization to work in the United States or Canada for the duration of the role, if based in the US or Canada
