Job Description

AI Director leading production AI architecture, governance, and client strategy at Futurice, a data-and-AI consultancy. Growing UK capability through consulting, business development, mentoring, and hiring.

Responsibilities:

  • Set the technical direction for AI and data work across Futurice UK
  • Be responsible for the quality of AI and data solutions built
  • Architect and build production AI systems, including agentic applications, retrieval and knowledge systems, applied ML, and underlying data platforms
  • Establish evaluation methods for AI-system quality, cost, latency, and risk
  • Advise client leadership on AI strategy, operating models, build-versus-buy, and moving from pilot to production
  • Design governance, privacy, security, and responsible AI practices into projects
  • Lead technical shaping of new opportunities, including qualification, solution design, estimation, and pitches
  • Contribute to Futurice’s profile through writing and speaking
  • Grow UK AI capability through mentoring, training, and hiring
  • Work with the wider Futurice AI community across Europe
  • Identify and shape client opportunities and lead the technical side of proposals and pitches

Requirements:

  • Around 10+ years of experience in technology
  • Several years in a senior, client-facing role
  • Recent hands-on experience delivering AI systems into production
  • Experience in regulated sectors
  • Experience with platform and data modernisation
  • Open-source contributions or published work
  • Experience productising an offering
  • Experience taking LLM-based and agentic systems into production and supporting them afterwards
  • Experience with agentic architecture, including tool use, planning and execution loops, multi-agent orchestration, memory and state, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and failure recovery
  • Expertise in context engineering, including retrieval strategy, chunking and compaction, caching, structured inputs, freshness, and cost trade-offs
  • Experience with AI evaluation and observability, systematic error analysis, regression suites, and tracing agent behaviour in production
  • Experience with retrieval and knowledge systems, hybrid search, re-ranking, retrieval evaluation, and graph-based approaches
  • Knowledge of model selection and adaptation, fine-tuning, distillation, and RL-based post-training
  • Experience with classical ML and data science, including forecasting, optimisation, causal inference, recommendation, and anomaly detection
  • Experience with data and platform foundations, including pipelines, orchestration, lakehouse and streaming patterns, data contracts, data quality, semantic layers, and lineage
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Knowledge of AI security, including prompt and indirect injection, tool-use and permission design, data exfiltration paths, sandboxing, agent identity, least privilege, and red-teaming
  • Strong Python and SQL skills
  • Sound software design instincts, testing discipline, code review, and comfort working in an existing codebase
  • Working knowledge of coding agents and AI tooling
  • Comfortable in technical discussions with engineering teams and strategic discussions with senior client stakeholders
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to frame and shape engagements, including approach, phasing, team shape, estimates, and risks
  • Business development experience, including identifying opportunities and leading technical responses to proposals and pitches
  • Ability to work with ambiguity
  • Experience mentoring, running internal training, documenting learning, and interviewing and assessing AI and data talent
