Job Description
Applications Engineer providing technical expertise in energy storage solutions for Canadian Solar. Overseeing pre-sales activities and supporting system sizing and design for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical expertise to support Canadian Solar’s energy storage solutions
- Responsible for the pre-sales activities of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) including system sizing, preliminary design, and value engineering
- Serve as a technical champion in customer discussions and act as an expert resource
- Conduct technical presentations and provide clarifications to customers and departments
- Analyze RFPs and other customer documentation to determine project supply scope against schedule, specifications, risk, and technical requirements
- Lead the technical sizing of BESS projects using internal models and power system tools
- Prepare technical documentation for proposal submittals and coordinate the bid package preparation
- Prepare, review, and negotiate technical contract exhibits owned by the Applications team
- Work closely with sales, engineering, and procurement teams
- Contribute to product development cycle by issuing market sensing summaries after engaging with industry stakeholders
- Travel to meet with customers, maximum 20% travel expected
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline (preferably Electrical or Mechanical)
- Minimum 3 years of direct Applications and/or Systems Engineering experience working in the battery energy storage system (BESS) industry
- Exceptional technical aptitude including the ability to read and fully understand engineering schematics, technical advisory reports, and technology reviews
- Understanding of UL regulatory standards related to battery energy storage systems and grid interactive (GFL/GFM) inverters
- Understanding of BESS Energy Management System communications architectures
- Global perspective and awareness, strong preference that the candidate possesses direct experience working across diverse cultures in a multinational company
- An excellent time manager, able to balance multiple projects and prioritize a broad variety of issues, initiatives, and objectives concurrently
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or related software strongly preferred
