Job Description
Part-time financial counselor providing personal financial guidance and education to military members and families. Supporting installations through Magellan Health's counseling program.
Responsibilities:
- Provide coverage in short-term, surge, and on-demand situations resulting from military needs
- Provide personal financial counseling and management services to military service members and their families
- Deliver one-on-one counseling and consultations with commanders, providers, and staff
- Conduct briefings, presentations, classes, seminars, and Personal Financial Management workshops
- Assist service members in establishing spending plans for extended absences
- Develop and distribute informational financial materials
- Respond to requests for age-appropriate classes or seminars
- Utilize virtual counseling, secure online chat, video communications, and customer-sponsored secure video teleconference when authorized
- Manage duty-to-warn situations according to Department of Defense protocol
- Communicate with leadership and participate in individual and group supervision
- Share information regarding trends and issues at assigned installations
- Participate in in-services, training, quality improvement committees, and other contract activities
- Work closely with installation and military branch Points of Contact to ensure program scope and installation needs are met
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required
- Associate degree plus 4 years' experience may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree
- High school diploma plus 6 years' experience may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree
- 3+ years of financial counseling experience
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must speak fluent English
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish if required by the contract
- Able to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation
- Must be able to pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process
- Must hold one of the following certifications: Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC)
- Valid in-state driver's license
- Ability to effectively utilize virtual counseling and electronic communication modes
