Job Description

Tax intern supporting income tax compliance, ASC 740 reporting, reconciliations, and filings. Gaining practical experience with The Standard’s financial services and insurance business in a fully virtual environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Support preparation of quarterly and year-end income tax provision calculations, including ASC 740 reporting and analysis
  • Prepare federal and state income tax returns, tax adjustment workpapers, quarterly tax-related filings, and analyses
  • Perform tax account reconciliations
  • Process tax-related payments
  • Prepare journal entries supporting accurate financial reporting
  • Assist with indirect tax filings and workpapers, including premium tax, sales and use tax, and property tax requirements
  • Support tax withholding and compliance activities, including deposits and interactions with federal and state taxing authorities
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives
  • Gain exposure to tax leadership, strategic projects, and executive-level discussions
  • Work under one manager overseeing day-to-day activities, with opportunities to work with multiple teams in the division
  • Work in an all-virtual remote environment

Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student throughout the duration of the internship
  • Rising sophomores, juniors, seniors, and students pursuing advanced degrees are encouraged to apply
  • Must be available to extend the summer internship in a part-time capacity from late August or early September through October 15
  • Preferred majors in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Strong analytical skills demonstrated by previous work experience and/or course of study
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Teams, and Outlook
  • Experience with AI tools preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, and critical thinking skills
  • Willingness to learn new skills and accept feedback
  • Must undergo criminal background investigation and employment, education, and licensing verification as a condition of employment
