Job Description
CTO directing AI, data, cybersecurity, and technology strategy for CIRE Equity, a commercial real estate investment firm. Building roadmaps, applications, integrations, and high-performing technology teams.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the senior technical authority for organizational growth
- Own the technology and data direction of a $1B+ AUM commercial real estate private equity firm
- Translate business strategy into an executable technology roadmap
- Provide technical authority on AI initiatives, architecture decisions, build-versus-buy decisions, and execution
- Review and refine data architecture standards across MRI, Argus, and Microsoft systems
- Oversee data warehouse initiatives for organizational reporting and analytics
- Define authoritative data locations and data flows between platforms
- Oversee workflow automation across internal and external parties
- Lead product evaluations and recommend integration decisions
- Lead the development of custom line-of-business applications and products
- Establish technology governance, policies, technical standards, access controls, vendor risk protocols, and PII protections
- Establish ROI measures and success metrics for technology implementations
- Own the technology budget and vendor contract negotiations
- Develop a build-versus-buy evaluation framework
- Identify workflow gaps addressable through custom tooling or automation
- Own and strengthen the firm's cybersecurity posture
- Coordinate incident response and breach notification readiness with Legal
- Own SOC 2 readiness and the applicable compliance roadmap
- Set data access and identity management standards
- Report cybersecurity posture and key risk indicators to leadership
- Sequence and execute the technology roadmap
- Recommend internal and external resources
- Balance quick wins with long-cycle infrastructure investments
- Report roadmap progress, risks, and resource gaps to the COO
- Serve as senior technical voice in cross-departmental decisions
- Mentor and advise internal technology staff
- Bridge business stakeholders and technical execution
Requirements:
- Senior and technically credible, with opinions backed by hands-on practice
- Hands-on experience with AI/ML tooling, data architecture, and modern SaaS integration patterns
- High emotional intelligence
- Comfortable owning a roadmap with real accountability
- Experience in B2B, ERP, or regulated-data environments strongly preferred
- Willingness and ability to travel to Southern California quarterly for in-person executive meetings
- 10+ years of technology leadership experience, including CTO, VP of Engineering, or equivalent senior roles
- Background as a builder at a product company, shipping software as CTO or VP of Engineering
- Demonstrated track record building and executing technology roadmaps in mid-market or growing firms
- Demonstrated track record building high-performing teams
- Active hands-on AI/ML practitioner
- Deep experience with SaaS platform integrations, data architecture, and API-connected ecosystems
- Prior experience in commercial real estate, proptech, financial services, or other complex data environments strongly preferred
- Familiarity with CCPA, SEC safeguarding requirements, state breach notification laws, and SOC 2
- Proven ability to operate effectively in a principal-led, entrepreneurial firm
