Job Description
Deputy Director leading worker-centered communications and digital campaigns for SEIU, a 2-million-member labor union. Managing campaign strategy, staff, messaging, budgeting, and stakeholder engagement.
Responsibilities:
- Lead development and execution of worker-centered communications and digital strategies for priority campaigns
- Coordinate narrative and messaging, including dynamic days of action, across the Narrative and Engagement Department and Organizing Hub
- Build and oversee the union’s organizing campaigns
- Manage organizing Assistant Directors and other campaign staff
- Supervise consultants, if applicable
- Create and share communications strategy, messaging, and materials with Organizing Hub deputies and campaign staff
- Drive engagement of workers and stakeholders and build awareness of SEIU’s organizing demands
- Coordinate strategic communications plans and goals to tell one cohesive story
- Plan, budget, and manage projects across divisions, departments, and campaign leaders
- Develop staff through training, feedback, reviews, skills development, and career development
- Work with International Union staff, campaign staff, local leaders and members, nonunion workers, and community partners
- Represent the International Union with independent judgment and professionalism
- Handle multiple priority projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the International Union
Requirements:
- Seven to eight years of related work experience, or a combination of education and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Knowledge of unions and other advocacy organizations preferred
- Priority given to candidates with real-world communications and organizing experience, regardless of formal education
- Must be available for frequent travel with overnight stays required
- Must be able to work long and irregular hours
- Ability to work in an office, field, or other settings as required
