Job Description

Deputy Editor leading a fast-paced editorial team at MovieWeb focused on film and television coverage. Mentoring contributors and steering strategic growth through data-informed content planning.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with parent company Valnet’s operations team regarding progress and challenges
  • Maintain editorial vision while striving to achieve business goals
  • Work with site leads to implement a plan for sustained growth
  • Continuously audit the site to identify areas to capitalize on, or those that need improvement
  • Propose and implement effective solutions for achieving the ambitious site output, traffic and revenue targets
  • Leverage reporting tools to research and identify topics and that will drive traffic
  • Assign stories to writers/editors; track progress
  • Manage editorial publishing calendar, plan editorial coverage for off-peak hours
  • Fill gaps writing and editing as needed
  • Liaise with HR and participate in talent acquisition efforts
  • Oversee and manage writers and editors on the site
  • Ensure team is maintaining output targets and quality expectations; hold team accountable for missed opportunities
  • Build an effective team of quality editors with technical skills and industry knowledge
  • Provide feedback and ensure editors are adhering to MW's publication standards, and are contributing/editing the necessary amounts
  • Manage MovieWeb’s PR & branding efforts
  • Build and help maintain relationships with key industry partners
  • Establish trusted hosts/field reporters for delegating
  • Establish content plans around events and track content bundles for each
  • Ensure event coverage is shared on MW’s Events page, social channels, and LinkedIn

Requirements:

  • Relevant experience in senior editing roles (managing editor, deputy editor, editor-in-chief) of a digital publication specializing in film, television and/or related content
  • Passion and background in all things Movies and TV
  • Familiarity with best practices for SEO writing, and knowledge producing content for various web traffic sources
  • Experience with writer management
  • Proven track record of growing a team, expanding coverage, and driving traffic
  • Experience using Google products including Sheets, Search Console, and Analytics
  • Strong sense of judgment and decision making capabilities while taking budgetary considerations into account
