Job Description
Director leading IMA’s global chapter, council, and digital community engagement. Shaping strategy, volunteer programs, and member experiences across IMA’s worldwide association network.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the community engagement team and support the organization's strategic direction for its global community spanning chapters, councils, and digital communities
- Reshape the community structure to keep pace with organizational growth and regional members' evolving needs
- Develop and lead IMA’s enterprise community engagement strategy aligned with organizational priorities, mission objectives, growth strategies, and reputation goals
- Serve as the senior enterprise leader aligning community engagement, customer experience, and external engagement strategies
- Partner with Marketing and Brand leaders to consistently share IMA’s education products and full value proposition with members
- Develop and oversee enterprise community engagement campaigns elevating IMA’s visibility, mission, and impact worldwide
- Ensure local stakeholder engagement and communities align with the enterprise vision and mission
- Translate regional research into globally consistent, market-differentiated go-to-market engagement models with phased delivery plans
- Partner with the My IMA 2.0 initiative to design community engagement and broader membership experiences together
- Direct community engagement operations across 200+ student and professional chapters globally and the U.S. Council structure
- Oversee volunteer training, compliance recordkeeping, issue resolution, chapter/council financial programs, recognition programs, payment processing, international chapter deferred banking, and invoicing of international chapter expenses
- Work with the governance team to ensure chapters, councils, online communities, and Shared Interest Groups operate according to local laws and ethical standards
- Design and facilitate ongoing volunteer training for chapter leaders, committee/SIG leaders, moderators, and champions
- Develop and sustain relationships with chapter and council leaders and volunteer stakeholders
- Maintain respectful and productive staff-volunteer collaboration as the operating model evolves
- Strengthen and diversify the volunteer pipeline in skills, experience, and geography
- Establish clear reporting lines, escalation paths, and knowledge sharing across the community engagement function
Requirements:
- 7+ years in community engagement or association management
- Demonstrated experience building or scaling communities in both in-person and digital environments
- Experience working across culturally and geographically distinct markets
- Experience leading organizational change, such as standing up new teams, redesigning operating models, or restructuring how a function delivers its work
- Understanding of volunteer motivation, recognition, and incentive design
- Experience in volunteer recruitment, resource management, and appreciation programs
- Strong project management skills, including budget forecasting and cross-functional project management
- Proven experience leading distributed teams
- CAE (Certified Association Executive) preferred
