Job Description

Engineering Manager leading Pliant’s authentication and authorization engineering team. Building secure fintech payment infrastructure while mentoring engineers and driving technical execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead one engineering team focused on authentication and authorization architecture for the Pliant platform
  • Start with a small team of existing and new backend/frontend engineers, a Product Manager, and partial Design support
  • Architect scalable, maintainable, and secure solutions
  • Initially contribute approximately 40–50% hands-on, gradually transitioning to a leadership-focused role
  • Mentor and develop engineers and support psychological safety through performance reviews and candid feedback
  • Foster communication, career development, engineering excellence, test-driven bug fixing, automated testing, continuous integration, and daily production deployments
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, backend/frontend engineers, and non-technical teams on business goals, features, changes, bug fixes, and initiatives
  • Guide technical discussions, steer release timelines, and ensure automation and operational excellence
  • Set and track quarterly team OKRs with the Product Manager
  • Promote innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with peers on company-wide initiatives and foster a positive team and department culture
  • Report to the Head of Engineering for the group

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of software development experience with Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot
  • 2+ years of leadership/management experience
  • Strong background in distributed, testable, and maintainable backend systems
  • Prior experience with authentication and authorization
  • Deep understanding of REST APIs, relational databases, PostgreSQL, and microservices
  • Experience leading teams, mentoring engineers, and driving best practices
  • Passion for people management and developing engineering teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to drive projects from concept to completion by leveraging team skills
  • Experience with security-related infrastructure or third-party vendors is a plus
