Job Description
Engineering Manager leading backend engineers building AI-native tools for global air and ocean freight operations. Owning delivery, hiring, team growth, and agent-enabled engineering practices.
Responsibilities:
- Lead engineering delivery, quality, speed, and team improvement in an AI-led engineering environment
- Grow engineers through meaningful one-to-ones, performance conversations, and career development
- Own hiring standards and conduct hiring interviews
- Partner with Product to shape the roadmap, negotiate scope, and reduce unnecessary churn
- Raise the team's AI engineering capability and improve agent workflows
- Help evolve the engineering setup toward autonomous agent fleets with appropriate guardrails and harnesses
- Remain technical approximately one day per week through code reviews and selected engineering work
- Meet freight forwarders and airlines and involve engineers in customer interactions
- Establish and maintain standards for specifications, architecture, reviews, and shipped work
Requirements:
- Experience managing engineers, including hiring, developing, honest performance management, and predictable delivery
- Backend engineering background
- Strong architecture instincts
- Sufficient technical currency to maintain engineers' technical respect
- Demonstrated delivery track record with specific shipped work and schedules
- Experience building a team, assessing potential, closing candidates, and onboarding effectively during the first 90 days
- Genuine engagement with AI-led engineering; willingness to use AI tools directly
- Sound judgment and willingness to make and own decisions with incomplete information
- Low ego and openness to feedback
- English as a working language at close to native fluency
- Nice to have: experience with Python 3, Flask, gRPC, PostgreSQL, Redis, Celery, Kubernetes on GCP, Vue.js, distributed teams across several countries, or introducing new ways of working
- Must be based in one of the approved hiring countries
