Job Description
Copy-editing and adapting Grade 2–8 mathematics textbooks for Vietnamese ESL students at TransPerfect. Simplifying English content and translating selected instructional sections into Vietnamese.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out copy-editing tasks on school mathematics textbooks for ESL students between Grade 2 and Grade 8
- Adapt English text so it is understandable to students with lower English proficiency
- Translate certain sections of instructional content into Vietnamese
- Perform substantive editing for cultural sensitivity, accuracy, artwork logs, and translation tagging
- Edit for sense and consistency, including errors, cross-dependency consistency, headings, key terms, unit features, activities, questions and answers, and glossary
- Deliver tracked-changes manuscript files
- Deliver clean manuscript files
- Copy-edit artwork logs
- Complete and action the final query log with responses before submission
- Complete the client brief checklist and provide notes for the typesetter or proofreader if required
- Support teachers in Vietnam in aligning national curriculum content with global learning outcomes
Requirements:
- Native or native proficiency in English
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years' experience teaching English to young learners
- Minimum of 3 years' experience with copy-editing
- Knowledge of the corporate business environment
- Knowledge of Vietnamese
- Availability for 6–8 hours a day during the specified project weeks
- Ability to carry out copy-editing and linguistics tasks for school mathematics textbooks intended for ESL students in Vietnam
