Job Description
FOIA Support Specialist coordinating responses to information requests for a government agency. Ensuring compliance with FOIA regulations and managing case files in a remote environment.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate responses to requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
- Examine and evaluate requests for information under FOIA to determine the custodian of records/information requested
- Draft appropriate replies to routine and complex requests for information
- Compile statistical data for release
- Coordinate with internal and external offices and programs to collect information for release independently
- Compile responsive information from custodians to prepare for submission to the FOIA office
- Use an electronic tracking system to track, manage, and complete FOIA assignments and maintain case files
- Recognize priorities and independently organize work to meet established deadlines
- Establish internal procedures to ensure adequate control of deadlines and progress reports
- Maintain and develop knowledge of the supported government program, its divisions, staff, and responsibilities
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in related discipline
- 3-5 years of relevant experience, direct FOIA experience a plus
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and research skills
- Excellent organization skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook and Excel
- Experience working with immigrant or refugee populations and anti-trafficking programs preferred
- Must be a US Citizen
