Job Description
Legal Counsel advising Zapier, an automation-platform company, on contracts, privacy, employment, and compliance. Automating legal operations while supporting sales, procurement, HR, and global teams.
Responsibilities:
- Provide practical legal advice on commercial and compliance matters, including vendor and sales contracts, data privacy, and employment law
- Report to and work as a member of the legal team under the General Counsel
- Lead responses to legal tickets from sales, procurement, HR, and other teams
- Draft, review, and negotiate inbound SaaS, service, consultant, and contractor agreements
- Collaborate with commercial counsel to support sales deals
- Collaborate with employment counsel on personnel-related compliance policies, documents, training, and day-to-day People team support
- Implement automation, AI, and other technology to improve legal-team quality and efficiency
- Monitor global legal developments involving labor, data privacy, and AI-related laws
- Advise the business on legal developments with practical, compliant solutions aligned with business goals
- Develop systems, processes, and metrics supporting company growth
- Perform other duties needed by the legal team
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor degree
- Admitted to practice and in good standing with one or more state bars in the US
- 4–8 years of legal experience across commercial, operational, or general corporate matters
- Experience drafting and negotiating inbound and outbound commercial contracts
- Experience with technology/cloud agreements, SaaS service agreements, contractor/consulting agreements, events-related agreements, and other business agreements
- Ability to analyze laws, regulations, and policies across multiple jurisdictions
- Strong business judgment and risk assessment skills
- Experience using technology such as Zapier for automating legal processes, CLM products, and AI tools
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment
- Strong writing, communication, listening, and interpersonal skills
- Combined law firm and in-house experience at a SaaS/technology company preferred, but not required
