Job Description
Legislative Counsel shaping regulatory strategy and compliance frameworks for Instacart’s grocery delivery marketplace. Advising cross-functional teams on gig economy legislation and regulatory matters.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate cross-functional regulatory responses with Policy and Government Affairs, Operations, Product, and Communications teams
- Review legislation impacting gig economy participants, marketplaces, retailers, and consumers
- Deliver actionable legal guidance to business partners to support compliant operations
- Develop and document legal frameworks and compliance best practices
- Manage relationships with external counsel, trade associations, and industry partners
- Support cross-industry initiatives shaping the regulatory conversation around gig economy innovation
- Build and share expertise in emerging legal areas relevant to Instacart’s business
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree
- 3+ years of experience practicing law
- Ability to synthesize, analyze, and provide precise legal advice in response to legislative updates
- Experience working with legislative bodies, government agencies, or regulatory matters
- Success supporting compliance initiatives and executing legal frameworks
- Understanding of legislative processes and the regulatory landscape
- Currently eligible locations limited to Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia
- Experience with legislative or regulatory strategy (preferred)
- Familiarity with marketplace platform companies, gig economy platform companies, or similarly highly regulated businesses (preferred)
