Job Description
Engineering Manager leading NerdWallet’s customer-facing React Native and Next.js financial products. Driving AI-native engineering workflows, product strategy, and high-performing teams.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a customer-facing product engineering team building React Native mobile app and Next.js web experiences
- Own team outcomes, people development, and engineering craft
- Shape the roadmap with Product and Design
- Lead the team to build compounding systems instead of one-off features
- Lead an AI-native team and define how it plans, defines, builds, reviews, and tests
- Make tradeoffs between polish and speed while maintaining accuracy and reliability for financial advice
- Deliver customer feedback rapidly to the team
- Communicate the team's strategy, roadmap, rationale, and progress to peers, partners, and leadership
- Lead organizational and workflow changes through adoption
- Collaborate as a peer with other Engineering Managers
- Report to the Senior Director, Engineering
Requirements:
- 8+ years in software engineering, including hands-on individual contributor experience
- 2+ years managing engineering teams; not a first-time management role
- Experience managing software engineers with accountability for team outcomes
- Experience leading an AI-native product engineering team
- Strong product and business instincts
- Track record of delivering hard feedback, resetting expectations, and investing in strongest people
- Technical credibility on a modern web or mobile product stack
- Comfort operating in ambiguity
- Experience with data, experimentation, and measurement for product decisions
- Experience hiring engineers and holding a hiring bar
- Preferred: experience in consumer fintech
- Preferred: experience with React Native, Next.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, Apollo, or comparable stack
- Preferred: experience with personalization, recommendation, and customer-data systems
- Preferred: experience partnering with compliance and security
- Preferred: experience defining an operating model
- Preferred: experience coaching other managers
- Must be based in the U.S.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must answer whether NerdWallet sponsorship or immigration-related support will be required
