Job Description
Mechanical systems SME designing structurally sound, manufacturable frames for industrial pumping assemblies at Boyd Corp. Guiding engineering, manufacturing, field execution, and related R&D efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the technical authority for mechanical structural support assemblies and coolant pumping component projects
- Bridge engineering, manufacturing, and field execution to ensure metal frame designs are structurally sound, cost-effective, and manufacturable
- Ensure frames handle dynamic loads, maintain component alignment, and resist external loads and environmental conditions
- Engage in near-term and future R&D efforts
- Create, validate, and optimize detailed metal framing concepts and shop drawings using 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks
- Ensure framing designs comply with fabrication limitations, optimize material usage, and reduce tooling and scrap rates
- Ensure metal frame designs meet local building codes, load requirements, and industry standards
- Evaluate structural failures, interferences, and manufacturing defects and provide data-driven corrective actions
- Act as the primary technical liaison among customers, manufacturing, and internal and external supply partners
- Mentor engineers, technicians, and production staff on mechanical system design best practices
Requirements:
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field, backed by significant hands-on industry experience
- 8-10 years of relevant experience
- Must be open to a fully remote position with 50% travel (global travel included)
- Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this position, including CPT, OPT, STEM OPT, F-1 to H-1B, H-1B cap registration, O-1, E-3, TN status, and I-485 job portability
- Deep understanding of metallurgy, structural loading, and mechanical properties of materials
- Experience designing structural steel skids and heavy-duty baseplates for industrial pumping assemblies
- Knowledge of structural dampening, gussets, anchor points, and resonance reduction
- Understanding of strict flatness tolerances for mechanical assemblies
- Expert understanding of heavy metal fabrication, including structural steel welding (AWS D1.1), machining, and stress-relieving heat treatments
- Understanding of pump casing, motor, gearbox, coupling, and pipe assembly alignment interactions with frame assemblies
- Understanding of frame assembly lifting, transportation, and installation planning
- Understanding of corrosion protection options, including hot-dip galvanizing, epoxy coatings, and zinc primers
- High proficiency in Finite Element Analysis
- Deep knowledge of API 610, PIP RESP002, and AISC structural welding codes
- Advanced knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Benefits:
- Fully remote work arrangement
- 50% travel, including global travel
