Job Description
Principal Experience Architect shaping Khan Academy’s cross-product education platform. Owning information architecture, navigation, and multi-role experiences across its learning products.
Responsibilities:
- Own and evolve the end-to-end product interaction model and information architecture across Khan Academy products
- Develop navigation systems, permission and role models, and product vocabulary
- Map and design cross-product journeys for students, teachers, parents, and district administrators
- Identify broken handoffs, conflicting mental models, and opportunities for consolidation or simplification
- Build experience maps, service blueprints, experience architecture diagrams, and design patterns
- Advise the Design Leadership Team on major product decisions
- Partner with design managers, product managers, technical architects, and engineering leads
- Develop lightweight governance frameworks, guidelines, and review processes
- Coach and influence embedded product designers
- Prototype, wireframe, or redesign critical cross-cutting flows
- Use AI tools such as Claude Cowork to complete work efficiently
Requirements:
- 12+ years of experience in product design, UX architecture, or UX strategy
- Strong information architecture, ecosystem and multi-platform interaction modeling, and systems-level design experience
- Ability to translate product ecosystem perspectives into maps, models, and frameworks
- Excellent visual, interaction, and structural design skills
- Experience guiding designers, PMs, and engineers without formal authority
- Experience designing for multiple user types, roles, and permission structures
- Ability to communicate architectural concepts to design peers and executive stakeholders
- Cross-cultural competency skills
- Portfolio submission is required
- Familiarity with K-12 education, school district structures, or regulated/high-stakes environments is preferred, not required
