Job Description
Principal Product Manager leading Yelp's ad auction, bidding, pricing, pacing, and measurement systems. Improving advertising marketplace efficiency, revenue, and advertiser success remotely across Canada.
Responsibilities:
- Define and drive the product roadmap for Yelp's ads auction, bidding algorithms, pricing mechanisms, and budget pacing systems
- Identify key levers for optimization and innovation
- Partner with Engineering and Data Science to design, develop, and refine the auction-based ad selection system
- Translate advertiser goals, user experience, and monetization considerations into algorithmic requirements
- Prioritize initiatives based on data and expected impact
- Define and own metrics for auction health, efficiency, and business impact
- Develop robust measurement for complex trade-offs
- Design and interpret large-scale A/B tests
- Analyze large-scale auction and advertising datasets to uncover optimization opportunities and inform product decisions
- Lead the end-to-end product lifecycle for auction-related features and improvements, from ideation through launch and iteration
- Collaborate with Engineering, Data Science, Sales, Finance, and other Product teams
- Communicate complex technical concepts and trade-offs to diverse audiences
- Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Yelp's core ad marketplace to influence revenue and advertiser success
Requirements:
- 8+ years of technical product management experience, preferably in auctions, bidding systems, search ranking, or monetization platforms within online advertising
- Strong theoretical and practical understanding of auction theory, including VCG and GSP
- Experience with optimization algorithms, statistical modeling, and machine learning concepts for ad targeting and ranking
- Ability to independently query, manipulate, and analyze large, complex datasets
- Proficiency with SQL and data analysis tools or languages such as Python or R
- Deep understanding of applied statistics, experimental design, A/B testing, causal inference, statistical significance, and long-term impact measurement
- Strong quantitative background
- Technical fluency with algorithms, system design, and data infrastructure
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Strong structured thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Mathematics, or a related field is highly preferred
