Job Description
Principal Software Engineer scaling Tivly’s insurance-lead technology platform. Designing distributed systems, cloud-native services, APIs, and polyglot solutions while guiding architecture and mentoring engineers.
Responsibilities:
- Own the architecture and design of distributed systems serving millions of insurance leads and transactions
- Lead by example through hands-on coding, technical reviews, and system optimization
- Collaborate with Product, DevOps, and Data teams on scalable API integrations and microservices
- Evaluate new technologies and frameworks to enhance performance and maintainability
- Support cross-functional development in multiple languages, including Java, Kotlin, Python, TypeScript, and Go
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers and foster a high-performing, collaborative environment
- Ensure security, reliability, and compliance within engineering deliverables
- Contribute to strategic technology roadmap planning and cross-team alignment
- Perform related duties, ad hoc tasks, and special projects as assigned
Requirements:
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant backend or platform experience
- Advanced proficiency in Java
- Hands-on experience with at least one additional language such as Kotlin, Python, Go, or TypeScript
- Proven experience designing, building, and scaling distributed systems and microservice-based architectures in high-traffic environments
- Strong experience with RESTful APIs, event-driven architectures, and internal/external service integrations
- Deep understanding of performance, reliability, and observability, including profiling, logging, metrics, and alerting
- Practical experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Familiarity with modern CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code quality practices
- Experience collaborating with Product, DevOps, and Data teams
- Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent practical experience considered
- Ability to communicate effectively in spoken English
- Must answer employment sponsorship requirements and identify the U.S. state where the position will be performed
- Completion of the required Predictive Index assessment
