Job Description

Principal Software Engineer scaling Tivly’s insurance-lead technology platform. Designing distributed systems, cloud-native services, APIs, and polyglot solutions while guiding architecture and mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the architecture and design of distributed systems serving millions of insurance leads and transactions
  • Lead by example through hands-on coding, technical reviews, and system optimization
  • Collaborate with Product, DevOps, and Data teams on scalable API integrations and microservices
  • Evaluate new technologies and frameworks to enhance performance and maintainability
  • Support cross-functional development in multiple languages, including Java, Kotlin, Python, TypeScript, and Go
  • Mentor senior and mid-level engineers and foster a high-performing, collaborative environment
  • Ensure security, reliability, and compliance within engineering deliverables
  • Contribute to strategic technology roadmap planning and cross-team alignment
  • Perform related duties, ad hoc tasks, and special projects as assigned

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant backend or platform experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Java
  • Hands-on experience with at least one additional language such as Kotlin, Python, Go, or TypeScript
  • Proven experience designing, building, and scaling distributed systems and microservice-based architectures in high-traffic environments
  • Strong experience with RESTful APIs, event-driven architectures, and internal/external service integrations
  • Deep understanding of performance, reliability, and observability, including profiling, logging, metrics, and alerting
  • Practical experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with modern CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code quality practices
  • Experience collaborating with Product, DevOps, and Data teams
  • Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent practical experience considered
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken English
  • Must answer employment sponsorship requirements and identify the U.S. state where the position will be performed
  • Completion of the required Predictive Index assessment
