Job Description

Principal Software Engineer architecting AI-enabled, scalable document and customs systems for C.H. Robinson’s global logistics operations. Leading full-stack engineering, cloud delivery, reliability, and technical mentorship.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and implement architecture patterns for reliable, maintainable, and extensible full-stack applications
  • Build reusable UI components, optimize API performance, and architect scalable, secure, high-performance backend services
  • Identify opportunities to integrate AI and automation into software development
  • Collaborate with Product, UX, Data Science, and Engineering teams to align technical direction with business priorities and product vision
  • Adopt data-driven approaches, conduct experiments, and iterate rapidly on features
  • Communicate technical trade-offs, design decisions, and architectural vision to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, architectural diagrams, and design guidelines
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams
  • Ensure system availability, troubleshoot production incidents, and drive permanent fixes through root cause analysis
  • Build partnerships across engineering teams and divisions to drive alignment and technical excellence
  • Research and adopt engineering tools, technologies, and methodologies to improve developer productivity and system efficiency

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience designing and implementing large-scale, distributed software systems spanning multiple platforms
  • 10+ years of experience with modern development languages, such as .NET Core and C#
  • Strong expertise in relational databases (MS SQL, Oracle) and non-relational databases (MongoDB, Elastic, CosmosDB), focusing on scalability and performance optimization
  • Deep understanding of microservices architecture, CQRS, event-driven design, and eventually consistent system patterns
  • Experience with data streaming architectures and frameworks, such as Kafka, ESB, and Apache Flink
  • Familiarity with AI/ML-driven engineering practices and AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot and CodeWhisperer
  • Experience embedding AI/ML models into applications
  • Expertise in testing strategies, automated testing frameworks, acceptance criteria definition, and test automation review
  • Proficiency with version control systems, such as Git, GitHub, and TFS
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and infrastructure automation, such as GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, and Terraform
  • Experience building and deploying cloud-native applications on Azure, AWS, or GCP
  • Hands-on end-to-end feature development, including API design, backend services, and frontend integration
  • Experience troubleshooting complex distributed systems, participating in on-call rotations, and leading post-mortems and root cause analysis
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to executives, engineers, and product managers
  • Proven track record delivering results in fast-paced environments, managing multiple priorities, and driving technical excellence
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or MIS
