Job Description
Privacy Counsel guiding privacy, data protection, advertising, health, and AI initiatives at Instacart, a grocery delivery platform. Building scalable compliance frameworks and governing data sharing.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor global privacy and data protection developments and translate enforcement trends into actionable guidance
- Review and advise on new products and business initiatives across e-commerce, advertising, health, and AI-driven product lines
- Develop privacy frameworks for advertising data use, audience targeting, measurement, consent, and sensitive data restrictions
- Assess and govern data-sharing arrangements with retail partners, advertisers, vendors, and subsidiaries
- Establish and maintain DPAs, BAAs, and cross-border transfer mechanisms including SCCs and DPF
- Support PRAs and DPIAs
- Improve privacy intake and documentation processes
- Create scalable privacy guidance, templates, playbooks, and training materials
Requirements:
- J.D. from a top-tier law school
- Membership in at least one U.S. state bar; California required or ability to register as in-house counsel
- 6+ years of experience focused on privacy and data protection
- Deep working knowledge of CCPA, GDPR, HIPAA, and evolving U.S. state privacy and health data laws
- Experience advising on adtech, data sharing, and consumer data use in a retail, e-commerce, or platform environment
- Ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical, business-oriented guidance for non-legal stakeholders
