Job Description
Proposal Strategist developing infrastructure-distribution proposals and sales enablement materials at Ferguson. Managing RFP responses, pursuit schedules, compliance, content, and cross-functional contributors.
Responsibilities:
- Lead proposal development using Shipley proposal management standards and best practices
- Plan proposals, develop win strategies, assign resources, conduct compliance reviews, and execute proposals
- Review RFPs, RFQs, RFIs, ITBs, and SOQs
- Facilitate proposal kickoff meetings and establish strategies, responsibilities, schedules, and deliverables
- Manage multiple proposals and pursuit opportunities simultaneously
- Serve as project manager for assigned proposal opportunities
- Develop schedules, manage action items, facilitate team communication, track progress, and ensure timely delivery
- Collaborate with Sales, Project Management, Integration, Operations, Legal, Risk Management, Tax, Supplier Diversity and Minority Outreach, Marketing, and Executive Leadership
- Collect and curate information from subject matter experts, manufacturers, business partners, and internal stakeholders
- Develop and improve proposal templates, content libraries, project profiles, resumes, graphics, and reusable pursuit assets
- Ensure proposal submissions comply with customer requirements and include required documentation
- Draft, edit, proofread, and format proposal content
- Develop persuasive, customer-focused proposal narratives communicating Ferguson's value proposition and differentiators
- Analyze technical specifications, project documentation, manufacturer information, and customer requirements
- Create graphics, charts, organizational diagrams, process visuals, and presentation materials
- Track proposal activity, market trends, project opportunities, and win/loss results
- Support sales teams through pre-proposal planning, customer presentations, shortlist interviews, post-RFP questions, and sales enablement activities
- Develop shortlist presentations, interview materials, customer-facing documentation, and strategic pursuit deliverables
- Participate in proposal debriefs, win/loss reviews, and lessons-learned activities
- Identify and implement process improvements across proposal and pursuit activities
- Support strategic initiatives and special projects that drive growth and improve operational effectiveness
Requirements:
- Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience
- 1+ years' experience with sales administration preferred
- 1+ years' experience with proposal development preferred
- 1+ years' experience editing large documents for consistency and accuracy preferred
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and document quality control
- Strong proofreading, editing, and formatting skills
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent deadlines and competing priorities
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and business needs
- Ability to collaborate with stakeholders across departments and organizational levels
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- High aptitude for learning new processes, products, and systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and Adobe Acrobat
- Technical writing experience preferred
- Experience creating professional graphics and visual content preferred
- Shipley Proposal Certification preferred
- Experience responding to public-sector, municipal, utility, infrastructure, industrial, or construction-related solicitations is a plus
- 4-year degree in Business or related field or equivalent experience
- Experience with Excel, Salesforce, SharePoint, OneDrive, standard government forms, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word
