Job Description
Retention Coach helping Apprentify Group learners complete apprenticeships. Managing interventions, recovery plans and learner engagement for an education and workforce-development provider.
Responsibilities:
- Support learners at risk of withdrawing, falling behind or becoming disengaged from their apprenticeship
- Manage a caseload of at-risk learners
- Conduct structured intervention conversations to identify root causes and agree recovery plans
- Help learners overcome workload, confidence, wellbeing, employer-support and personal challenges
- Use coaching techniques, motivational interviewing and persuasive communication to prevent withdrawals
- Challenge withdrawal requests where appropriate and explore options before learners leave their programmes
- Develop completion plans and encourage progress towards Gateway and End Point Assessment where applicable
- Support Break in Learning processes and help learners return to learning
- Collaborate with Coaches, Performance Managers, Customer Success teams and employers
- Maintain accurate learner records and monitor engagement and risk indicators
- Contribute to case reviews and improve retention strategies
- Ensure interventions meet funding, compliance and audit requirements
- Report to the Retention Manager
Requirements:
- Experience in apprenticeship coaching, learner support, student services, retention, customer success or another learner-facing environment
- Experience managing sensitive conversations with disengaged, dissatisfied or withdrawing individuals
- Strong coaching, questioning and motivational interviewing skills
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
- Ability to build trust and rapport with learners from diverse backgrounds while balancing empathy with accountability
- Strong organisational and caseload management skills
- Confidence using learner data, engagement metrics and risk indicators
- Resilience and professionalism in emotionally challenging conversations and complex learner situations
- Collaborative approach with coaches, employers, Performance Managers and wider delivery teams
- Strong attention to detail and accurate learner-record maintenance
- Ability to meet funding, compliance and audit requirements
- Experience within apprenticeships, further education or another regulated learning environment (nice to have)
- Experience using Aptem, BUD, OneFile or similar learner management systems (nice to have)
- Knowledge of apprenticeship funding requirements, Break in Learning processes and learner compliance (nice to have)
- DBS Check required for all candidates
