Job Description
Security Engineering Manager building SkySlope’s security engineering program and team. Leading cloud security, secure SDLC, detection, AI governance, and executive risk reporting for real estate software.
Responsibilities:
- Build and lead SkySlope's dedicated security engineering team
- Design and execute SkySlope's security engineering program
- Own the security roadmap across identity and credential standards, least-privilege authorization, secrets management, managed-device standards, attack-surface governance, secure SDLC, centralized logging and detection, vulnerability disclosure, and AI governance
- Sequence and prioritize security initiatives for maximum risk reduction per unit of engineering effort
- Maintain and burn down a visible, prioritized security-debt register
- Own security tooling and vendor decisions, including evaluation, selection, and build-versus-buy decisions
- Deliver executive reporting on program status, risk posture, and progress
- Lead and participate in security-relevant architecture and design reviews
- Contribute hands-on through proofs of concept, detection logic, automation, and reviews
- Set and uphold the technical bar for security engineering work
- Hire security engineers across levels and build an effective team
- Coach and mentor direct reports through personal and performance management
- Partner with DevOps, IT, and product engineering to embed actionable security standards
- Apply AI tooling to security review, triage, and detection engineering
- Define AI security guardrails and shape SkySlope's AI governance standards
- Deliver program milestones, establish and reduce the security-debt register, grow and retain the team, and provide clear executive reporting
Requirements:
- Strong senior/staff-level individual contributor background in security engineering, infrastructure engineering, or platform engineering
- Demonstrated ability to design and drive a security program or comparable cross-cutting technical initiative from ambiguity to delivery
- Working depth in modern cloud security, including cloud IAM, credential federation, secrets management, secure SDLC, and detection/logging
- Experience with multi-cloud environments; depth in one cloud and fluency across AWS, GCP, and Azure is acceptable
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills, with a track record of growing engineers, including early-career engineers
- Sound judgment on security tooling and vendor decisions, including build-versus-buy decisions
- Clear, direct communication with executives and engineers, in writing and in person
- Enthusiasm for using AI as a working tool in security engineering
- Pragmatic bias toward risk reduction that ships
- Demonstrated ability is valued; certifications and credentials are not required
- Ability to manage 2–4 direct reports, including security engineers at multiple levels
