Job Description
Senior Developer designing CI architectures and improving build, test, and developer workflows at cybersecurity company 1Password. Optimizing GitHub Actions pipelines across macOS, Windows, and Linux.
Responsibilities:
- Define and evolve reference CI architectures for GitHub Actions across Product Engineering.
- Design job decomposition, parallelization, caching and artifact strategies, test partitioning and execution, and multi-platform builds.
- Partner with teams to redesign slow or fragile pipelines through time-boxed engagements with measurable outcomes.
- Improve CI developer experience by making failures easier to diagnose and fix.
- Build tooling, abstractions, and templates that make best practices the default path.
- Drive application-layer performance optimization across build and compilation strategies, dependency management, and toolchains.
- Improve test architecture and reduce test flakiness in partnership with service and application owners.
- Translate CI metrics into actionable architectural changes.
- Help teams interpret CI signals and prioritize high-leverage fixes.
- Co-develop golden workflows and guardrails with CI Platform.
- Collaborate with CI Platform and product engineering teams across codebases and ownership boundaries.
Requirements:
- Experience designing or evolving CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitHub Actions
- Hands-on ability to improve build and test performance through compilation caching, dependency optimization, parallelization, and test sharding or partitioning
- Deep familiarity with multi-platform builds and testing across macOS, Windows, and Linux
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and systems thinking
- Practical debugging skills using logs and metrics to isolate bottlenecks and drive fixes across multiple layers
- Ability to collaborate across teams and codebases and influence without direct ownership
- Knowledge of build systems or toolchains such as Rust, Node/pnpm, or mobile toolchains is a bonus
- Experience with monorepos, large-scale CI, or developer productivity initiatives is a bonus
- Experience building internal tooling such as CLI tools, workflow generators, or reusable actions/workflows is a bonus
- Experience using observability data, such as Datadog CI metrics, to drive performance improvements is a bonus
- Must already be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada; 1Password does not offer work authorization, relocation assistance, or sponsorship/transferring of a visa
