Job Description
Senior Network Engineer maintaining Abacus datacentre networks across the US and UK. Leading client network projects, cloud connectivity, firewall operations, and escalation support.
Responsibilities:
- Manage performance and availability of Abacus datacentre networks across the US and UK
- Participate in network improvement projects
- Maintain high availability and performance for datacentre services
- Act as an escalation point for support incidents affecting multiple clients
- Serve as technical lead for internal and client projects, including client network builds
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues and proactively identify improvement opportunities
- Support and maintain network backbone infrastructure across multiple datacenters and geographic regions using OSPF, BGP, DIA, PTP, VPN, multi-gig connectivity, and cross-connects
- Lead medium-sized client engagements involving equipment deployment, network design, or refresh tasks
- Provide escalation support for client offices, Abacus datacenters, Azure and AWS public cloud networks, and remote access systems such as VPN and Citrix
- Support and maintain NGFW firewall configurations and troubleshoot datacenter and client environments
- Work directly with high-profile clients to deliver suitable solutions and resolve problems effectively
- Collaborate with internal Abacus teams to provide solutions and escalation support
- Create and maintain documentation for Abacus and client infrastructure, processes, and procedures
- Monitor technology trends and recommend solutions to improve performance, security, and efficiency
- Provide guidance and mentoring to team members
Requirements:
- Strong experience deploying and managing Juniper hardware including SRX and EX platforms
- Strong experience deploying and managing Cisco hardware including ISR, ASR, Nexus, and Catalyst platforms
- Strong experience supporting NGFW solutions from Palo Alto, FortiNet, and Cisco
- Thorough understanding of the OSI network model, Ethernet, and TCP/IP networking concepts
- Excellent LAN/WAN fault diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- In-depth knowledge of Spanning Tree, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, BGP, OSPF, VPN, IPSEC, QoS, NATs, and ACLs
- Experience managing datacentre networks, preferably in a multi-tenant MSP environment
- Experience with office network design, implementation, monitoring, and troubleshooting
- Experience leading client engagements
- Expertise leading technical projects from start to finish, including requirements gathering, planning, execution, and post-implementation review
- Experience with network monitoring platforms
- Solid understanding of virtualization and network integration with VMware infrastructure
- Experience maintaining network solutions based on Azure’s platform preferred
- Strong documentation, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Willingness to learn new technologies and maintain industry knowledge
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- 8+ years of networking experience
- CCNP, JNCIP, or equivalent certification preferred
- Bachelor’s degree a plus
- MSP experience a plus
- Flexibility for after-hours and weekend work
- Ability to work an on-call rotation
- Ability to work the 8/8:30am–5/5:30pm shift
