Job Description

Senior Trade Advisor helping Deringer clients navigate Customs regulations and import-export compliance. Researching complex trade matters, developing solutions, and advising clients on regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent Customs-related research as requested by clients
  • Develop project plans, timelines, and procedures for consulting projects
  • Train customers on import and export regulations
  • Exercise independent judgment during customer consulting engagements
  • Coordinate with internal and external resources to complete projects on time and to client expectations
  • Research, interpret, and apply government import and export regulations to client situations
  • Develop solutions to complex import and export matters and recommend courses of action
  • Ensure opinions provided meet U.S. Government regulatory requirements for imports and exports
  • Analyze and interpret information received from clients and consultants
  • Perform complex data analysis for goods across all industries
  • Liaise with government departments to resolve client situations and projects
  • Prioritize and complete work according to project demands, Customs requirements, and standards
  • Identify sales opportunities
  • Stay current with Customs regulations, procedures, requirements, and other federal trade laws
  • Present at or coordinate public speaking engagements and seminars
  • Mentor and guide colleagues
  • Cross-train in additional responsibilities
  • Perform additional duties assigned by management
  • Travel up to 10%

Requirements:

  • Customs Broker License required, or willingness to obtain one
  • Previous classification experience
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Access
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in customs brokerage or auditing
  • Consulting experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
  • Trade compliance audit and risk assessment experience preferred
  • Experience developing Trade Compliance Programs and compliance manuals preferred
  • Experience implementing internal controls to meet regulatory requirements preferred
  • Experience establishing Trusted Trade programs, such as ISA, preferred
  • Experience analyzing and submitting Prior Disclosures preferred
  • Valuation Binding Ruling process and submission experience preferred
  • AD/CVD experience preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
