Job Description
Counselor providing immediate support to clients in crisis through phone and chat. Working in a high-volume environment with flexible shifts to support 24/7 mental health services.
Responsibilities:
- Provide immediate support to clients experiencing emotional distress or a crisis by phone or chat
- Deliver single-session counseling and conduct crisis intervention in a supportive, ethical, and professional manner while maintaining client confidentiality
- Conduct thorough assessments to determine the level of risk to the client and the need for a safety plan
- Manage high-risk situations, including suicide risk, self-harm, child protection concerns, and substance-related issues, and work closely with at-risk individuals
- Work rotating shifts between 6:30 a.m. and midnight, including weekends and public holidays
- Collaborate with clients to develop clear, concise treatment and safety plans
- Maintain clear, concise clinical documentation in our records management system
- Respond with flexibility and professionalism in ambiguous or rapidly evolving situations
Requirements:
- Must hold a master’s degree in social work, psychology, psychotherapy, or a related field (e.g., MSW, M.A. in Psychology, M.Psych, etc.)
- Must be fluent in French and English, with the ability to switch between languages seamlessly
- Available to work variable shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, to support our 24/7 call center operations
- Demonstrated expertise in risk assessment, trauma‑informed care, and sound clinical judgment
- Comfortable using technology and digital tools to enhance therapeutic approaches, client support, and record keeping
- Able to remain calm and solution-focused in highly stressful or uncertain situations
- Exercise good clinical judgment and take proactive decisions, showing initiative while adhering to professional and ethical standards
- Demonstrate creativity and openness to improve therapeutic approaches and develop solutions in changing or ambiguous situations
- Exhibit exceptional listening, empathy, and communication skills to build trust, manage expectations, and effectively meet client needs
