Job Description

Remote SkillBridge intern developing military and veteran engagement initiatives for Blue Cross NC, a healthcare insurer. Supporting outreach, partnerships, events, and healthcare access across North Carolina.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic military and veteran-focused initiatives advancing Blue Cross NC’s brand, business objectives, member outreach, retention efforts, and community impact
  • Improve access to healthcare, behavioral health resources, benefits education, and social determinants of health for active-duty service members, veterans, and military families
  • Collaborate with County Engagement teams and cross-functional business units to implement community-informed strategies supporting Healthy Blue, Blue Cross NC’s Medicaid plan
  • Build and maintain relationships with military installations, VSOs, MSOs, Veteran Service Officers, healthcare providers, community organizations, and government agencies
  • Develop education and outreach initiatives focused on healthcare access, behavioral health, chronic disease prevention, food insecurity, and housing stability
  • Lead and support military community events, Veteran Stand Downs, benefits education seminars, health screenings, wellness initiatives, and evidence-based training programs
  • Coordinate with Public Health, Faith-Based, Tribal and Regional Liaisons, and other business-facing divisions
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on military and veteran community needs, healthcare trends, and barriers to care
  • Lead, train, and support County Engagement teammates and community partners
  • Communicate program activities, partnership outcomes, community insights, and measurable impacts through reporting, presentations, and internal communications
  • Manage military engagement projects, programs, policies, and procedures
  • Evaluate community needs and partnership opportunities to develop sustainable initiatives supporting the military community and Blue Cross NC’s mission

Requirements:

  • Open to active-duty US military service members only
  • Must be within the last 180 days of service at the time of internship start
  • Must receive approval from commanding officer and service branch to participate in SkillBridge
  • Minimum 12-week commitment required
  • Must have a clear end-of-service date aligned with the internship timeline
  • Must submit a current resume outlining military and civilian experience
  • Command and service branch approval documentation, if available
  • Statement of interest or cover letter describing career goals and SkillBridge program objectives
  • Must adhere to Department of War SkillBridge policies, guidance, and regulations
  • Must adhere to company policies and professional conduct standards
  • Responsible for own housing, transportation, and living expenses during the internship
