Job Description

Staff Forward Deployed Engineer building AI-powered client integrations for OpenLoop’s telehealth infrastructure. Creating reusable SDKs, agents, API tooling, and deployment practices across U.S. virtual care.

Responsibilities:

  • Embed with client engineering teams and build integrations in their codebases against OpenLoop's Partner API
  • Own client integration outcomes through go-live and the following weeks
  • Identify platform gaps, file them with representative endpoints, and document time-boxed workarounds when necessary
  • Design and ship backend and frontend systems enabling client development with AI in the loop
  • Build SDKs, reference implementations, CLIs, machine-readable documentation, and agentic API workflows
  • Design human review, pre-launch evaluations, and post-launch monitoring for AI solutions
  • Own the deployment agent roster, including readiness gates, conformance checks, seeding checkers, documentation freshness, gap filing, and communication drafts
  • Convert client-specific needs into reusable recipes, checks, manifests, impact analysis, API conventions, and roadmap evidence
  • Turn ambiguous or over-promised client requests into phased, defensible scopes
  • Prevent breaking changes to live clients through checks, manifests, compatibility windows, and proposal processes
  • Serve as the technical voice with client engineering leadership, platform teams, and sales
  • Mentor FDEs and deployment strategists and help develop the deployment playbook

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including significant time delivering directly for external customers or partners in their environments
  • Proven end-to-end ownership of complex, customer-facing technical deliveries
  • Strong integration engineering depth: API design and consumption, authentication, webhooks versus polling, idempotency, rate limits, pagination, schema drift, reconciliation, and cloud infrastructure
  • Daily experience building with AI agents, verifying their output, evaluating LLM-based systems, and identifying when to stop trusting them
  • Experience handling sensitive data with a security-first mindset
  • Excellent communication with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated judgment about scope, including descoping, sequencing, or declining work
  • Evidence of leverage through SDKs, tooling, checks, reference implementations, or practices
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience (preferred)
  • Preferred: healthcare or regulated-domain experience
  • Preferred: production experience shipping LLM-based or agentic systems
  • Preferred: developer-platform experience with SDKs, CLIs, API conventions, and tested documentation
  • Preferred: familiarity with EHR, scheduling, pharmacy, or payments integrations; FHIR is a plus
  • Preferred: experience with sales or solutions teams in pre-sales technical conversations

Benefits:

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision plans
  • Flexible Spending/Health Savings Accounts
  • Flexible PTO
  • 401(k) + Company Match
  • Life Insurance
  • Pet insurance
  • Periodic travel to clients and team working sessions
  • Flexible client-facing work outside core collaboration hours when required
