Job Description
Field PLC Engineer developing and commissioning PLC automation for Divcon’s HVAC, power, and mission-critical data center systems. Client-facing role requiring frequent travel to U.S. job sites.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and modify PLC programs controlling HVAC, central plant, mechanical, and electrical systems in data center environments
- Implement customer-requested changes to PLC databases, control sequences, and control strategies
- Configure PLC logic, tags, alarms, I/O structures, and system parameters
- Develop reusable code, templates, and standardized programming practices
- Test PLC logic and validate system functionality before field deployment
- Meet with clients to understand mechanical, electrical, and automation requirements
- Provide technical input during client meetings, design reviews, and project coordination discussions
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, vendors, field teams, and commissioning teams
- Communicate technical risks, open issues, and project status
- Support system start-up, troubleshooting, and validation activities
- Debug installation and programming issues during static and dynamic commissioning
- Diagnose and resolve errors in PLC logic, hardware, field devices, and communication networks
- Integrate PLC systems with SCADA, BMS, EPMS, and other facility systems
- Document programming workflows, logic changes, system configurations, and commissioning updates
- Follow PLC programming standards, code review practices, naming conventions, and documentation requirements
- Maintain organized project files and accurate technical records
- Participate in internal reviews and lessons learned
Requirements:
- 6+ years of PLC programming, controls engineering, industrial automation, or related technical experience
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 50–60%, including potential extended site assignments
- Experience or working knowledge of Rockwell / Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 or similar PLC programming platforms
- Understanding of PLC logic, I/O, field devices, industrial networks, and control system architecture
- Ability to troubleshoot PLC logic, hardware, and communication networks
- Strong organization, task management, and documentation skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative engineering environment
- Self-directed and proactive, with ability to manage assigned work with appropriate oversight
- OSHA 10 certification obtained within the past two years is required; training will be provided if needed and must be completed within the first week of employment
- Ability to travel frequently to job sites by car or plane, up to 60%
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout job sites for extended periods
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and lifts as required
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and work in tight or confined spaces
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment and materials up to 50 pounds
- Manual dexterity to handle tools, wiring, and small components
- Ability to work at heights and in varying indoor and outdoor conditions
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment
- Visual keenness to read schematics, labels, and digital displays
- Ability to visually identify and differentiate wires by assigned color
- Ability to hear and respond to alarms, equipment sounds, and verbal instructions
- Capability to safely operate hand and power tools
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Software, Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, or Mechatronics Engineering
- Preferred: Experience with HVAC controls, central plants, chillers, boilers, or mechanical systems
- Preferred: Exposure to Ignition SCADA, HMIs, Kepware, EPMS, BMS, or facility integration platforms
- Preferred: Experience with Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, BACnet/IP, or OPC-UA
- Preferred: Data center, hyperscale infrastructure, mission-critical facility, or systems integrator experience
