Job Description
Swing Dispatcher coordinating staffing, routes, and driver assignments for WM, North America’s leading environmental-solutions provider. Supporting training and route efficiency across centralized dispatch operations.
Responsibilities:
- Provide support to the Area Dispatch Supervisor in directing the Centralized Dispatch Center/function
- Verify checks and balances so all work is covered and dispatcher shifts are monitored
- Cover dispatcher breaks, sick time, and vacation absences
- Manage cross-training and new-hire training
- Improve operations and implement best practices
- Handle escalations using documented processes
- Partner with dispatchers and routers to resolve down-route coverage and optimize route efficiency
- Ensure all same-day and next-day work is assigned to drivers, considering load type, customer expectations, landfill requirements, and other factors
- Participate in leadership-team skill development through role-playing
- Discuss processes and procedures with routers and dispatchers
- Serve as a first contact for ongoing training and mentor new hires during onboarding
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Must live within the South Atlantic Market Area: Georgia, South Carolina, or North Carolina
- High school diploma or accredited G.E.D.
- 2 years of previous dispatching experience
- Strong computer competency
- Strong communication skills
- Additional or specialized training in transportation, logistics, or a similar area of study preferred
- Customer service experience in a call-center environment preferred
- Ability to work flexibly during operation hours of 2:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Must have, or be willing to obtain, a REAL ID or TSA-approved alternative if required for air travel or access to federal property
