Job Description

Tax Team Manager overseeing U.S. individual and business tax workflows for BFG, an accounting and financial services provider. Managing team performance, deadlines, quality, and escalations.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage, guide, and support tax associates, senior tax professionals, and other assigned team members
  • Set expectations for work quality, deadlines, documentation, communication, and accountability
  • Provide feedback, coaching, and support to identify training needs and improve performance
  • Coordinate with the Delivery & Operations Manager on staffing, performance concerns, and operational requirements
  • Monitor assigned tax projects from intake and preparation through review, e-filing, delivery, and follow-up
  • Assign work based on employee capability, workload, complexity, and deadlines
  • Track project status, internal due dates, dependencies, pending client information, and overdue tasks
  • Identify workflow bottlenecks, redistribute work, and escalate deadline risks
  • Oversee preparation and review workflows for individual tax returns, primarily Form 1040, and business returns including Forms 1065, 1120S, and 1120
  • Monitor extensions, estimated tax payments, missing documents, e-filing, and delivery requirements
  • Identify technical issues requiring review or escalation to a CPA Advisor, EA, or senior tax professional
  • Ensure tax preparation, review, documentation, and quality-control procedures are followed
  • Track review comments and rework items and coordinate coaching or process improvements
  • Coordinate workflow and supporting documentation for tax-planning and tax-resolution engagements
  • Maintain tracking of cases, client documents, correspondence, deadlines, and follow-up actions
  • Follow and improve SOPs, checklists, workflow standards, and documentation practices
  • Monitor workload, delivery progress, quality issues, and recurring bottlenecks
  • Use tax software, workflow platforms, dashboards, and automation tools to support productivity and control
  • Report project status, team capacity, risks, and performance to the Delivery & Operations Manager

Requirements:

  • 5–8 years of relevant U.S. tax experience
  • At least 2 years of experience supervising, mentoring, or coordinating the work of a tax team
  • Practical knowledge of U.S. individual and business taxation, including Forms 1040, 1065, and 1120S; knowledge of Form 1120 is an advantage
  • Experience reviewing tax returns or coordinating review and rework processes
  • Ability to allocate work, monitor deadlines, track workflow, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication, organization, coaching, problem-solving, and escalation skills
  • Experience in a tax practice, accounting firm, CPA firm, EA practice, or similar professional-services environment
  • Comfortable using professional tax software and project/workflow management systems
  • Enrolled Agent (EA), CPA, CA/CA Inter, or another relevant accounting/tax qualification preferred but not mandatory
  • Experience with Drake Tax or similar U.S. tax preparation software preferred
  • Experience supporting offshore or distributed teams preferred
  • Exposure to tax planning, tax resolution, or process automation preferred
