Job Description

Senior Accountant managing US-Canada cross-border tax compliance and planning within a modern Canadian accounting firm. Collaborating with high-net-worth individuals and small businesses.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review US (Forms 1040, 1120, 1065) and Canadian (T1, T2, T3) tax returns
  • Coordinate and review cross-border tax filings and disclosures (e.g., FBAR, 5471, 3520)
  • Identify cross-border tax planning opportunities and risks
  • Research and communicate complex tax issues with clients and team members
  • Support internal tax planning initiatives and process improvements
  • Participate in cross-border tax team check-ins and mentorship
  • Communicate directly with clients and lead meetings
  • Improve internal and client processes and systems
  • Support automation and system efficiencies
  • Provide weekly updates during team check-ins
  • Contribute to a collaborative team culture

Requirements:

  • CPA designation (PH or equivalent)
  • 5+ years post-designation public practice experience
  • 2+ years working with a US or Canadian accounting firm
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Strong technical understanding of US and Canadian tax laws
  • Tech-savvy with advanced computer skills
  • Able to work night shift (aligned with Canadian hours)
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to work independently
  • Self-starter with excellent multitasking ability
  • Experience with Canadian and US tax preparation software (TaxCycle, Taxprep, CCH Axcess, GoSystem etc.)
  • System improvement or automation experience
  • Familiarity with other modern cloud accounting tools
