Job Description

VA Associate Advocate supporting veterans seeking disability benefits through legal research, case development, and advocacy. Assisting senior advocates with briefs, examinations, and team leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Senior Advocate/Team Leader with the strategic direction of the advocate department
  • Partner with the department head to build a strong leadership team
  • Provide technical legal support to the Senior Advocate
  • Become familiar with relevant statutes, regulations, and case law
  • Review and bookmark records, files, and c-files
  • Assist in identifying issues and conduct legal research
  • Draft arguments, briefs, and letters at Regional Office, Board, and CAVC levels
  • Provide leadership and support for Intake activities
  • Lead a team of customer service professionals
  • Provide technical guidance to direct reports and other professionals
  • Provide input and recommendations to leaders on company objectives
  • Review decisions and direct Case Managers on further development
  • Manage a reduced caseload with responsibilities similar to a senior associate
  • Prepare clients for Compensation & Pension Examinations
  • Take lay witness statements
  • Edit company website blogs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor degree, or actively accredited VA claims agent
  • 1–2 years of work-related experience preferred
  • Advanced professional discipline requiring a post-collegiate degree or equivalent accredited-agent qualification
  • Advanced proficiency applying broad knowledge, experience, and leadership
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Analytical, interpersonal, and computer skills
  • Desk, chair, and basic work-from-home essentials
  • Quiet work area without noise or distractions
  • Personal high-speed internet service; Wi-Fi is not acceptable
  • Minimum internet speed of 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload
  • Must be based in the United States and reside in or be willing to relocate to FL, GA, IL, IN, MA, NC, NJ, NV, NY, PA, SC, TX, or WV
