Job Description
Online Visiting Professor teaching engineering technology courses for DeVry University. Developing syllabi, grading assessments, and integrating applied technologies and responsible AI into instruction.
Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate engineering technology-related courses for eight-week sessions
- Facilitate student learning in accordance with DeVry University requirements
- Develop course syllabi and lesson plans aligned with course and program objectives
- Prepare, organize, revise, and update course materials
- Use online technologies, websites, email, discussions, and course-related software
- Model effective oral and written communication to engage students and clarify complex concepts
- Publish course objectives, assignment and examination dates, and evaluation weightings
- Ensure exams align with course terminal objectives
- Prepare and grade exams consistently and fairly
- Provide timely feedback to students
- Integrate responsible AI technologies into teaching and learning
- Recognize, evaluate, and address appropriate and inappropriate student use of AI tools
- Complete other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Doctorate in Engineering Technology, Engineering, Applied Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a closely related field
- At least 18 graduate credit hours in engineering technology, applied engineering, systems engineering, electronics, manufacturing technology, or related technical disciplines
- Unofficial graduate-level transcripts must be uploaded with the application
- Degree must be awarded by an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, or by an internationally equivalent accredited institution
- Three to five years of applied professional experience in engineering technology, technical systems implementation, manufacturing environments, industrial systems, or applied engineering roles
- Experience with applied engineering technologies and technical systems, including modern tools, instrumentation, automation systems, or industry engineering technologies
- Industry-recognized certifications or professional credentials relevant to engineering technology, industrial systems, automation, or applied technical disciplines
- Subject matter expertise in applied engineering principles and technical problem-solving
- Effective communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse learners
- Knowledge of engineering standards, safety practices, and quality assurance processes in technical and industrial environments
- Commitment to ongoing professional development in instructional technology, digital literacy, and responsible AI practices
- Additional state licensing, institutional policy, or accreditation requirements may apply
- Preferred: industry certifications related to engineering technology, industrial automation, manufacturing systems, or applied technical disciplines
- Preferred: experience with automation systems, robotics, instrumentation, computer-aided design, or advanced manufacturing technologies
- Preferred: experience with systems engineering, technical troubleshooting, process improvement, and system integration
- Preferred: experience with continuous improvement, production management, or technical project management
- Preferred: experience with accreditation processes, outcomes assessment, curriculum alignment, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Preferred: two to five years of post-secondary teaching experience
- Preferred: active membership or engagement in professional engineering or engineering technology organizations
- Preferred: experience integrating laboratory instruction, technical simulations, engineering design projects, and applied problem-solving activities
