Job Description
Wire Editor producing accurate headlines and edited wire content for USA Today Network newspapers. Selecting, proofing, and packaging stories for print under deadline.
Responsibilities:
- Produces high-quality content working closely with multiple USA Today Network newspapers
- Writes sophisticated headlines and other display type on assigned content
- Trims stories to fit designated space
- Selects appropriate wire content and edits it into templates as needed
- Utilizes CUE system best-practice workflow to avoid story repetitions
- Proofreads display type and tracks jumps, correcting spelling, grammar, and other errors
- Suggests improvements to unclear ideas
- Edits display type to Network style
- Provides day-to-day guidance to other Page Editors/Wire Editors as needed
- Moves between page editing and wire editing functions as needed
- Provides mentoring/coaching for teammates
- Performs other duties as necessary and assigned
Requirements:
- Must have the ability to work independently and with people especially under deadline
- Must be able to express thoughts clearly and accurately in headlines and other display content
- Must organize and package numerous elements, resolve production issues and communicate effectively to meet deadlines
- Must be able to resolve any concerns and make decisions on stories independently
- Must be able to discern the news value of stories, including using market information provided by individual newsrooms
