Job Description
Converting Packaging SME solving equipment and process problems for Georgia-Pacific’s paper-product manufacturing operations. Supporting commissioning, commercialization, reliability, and performance improvements across North American facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Solve complicated problems in the paper product converting industry to improve manufacturing competitiveness
- Support projects through check-outs, start-up, commissioning, operational handoff, and troubleshooting of converting assets
- Support commercialization and product portfolio rollouts as a key technical resource
- Build technical solutions through networks of internal and external technical SMEs, engineers, operations personnel, vendors, and OEMs
- Identify technology and process gaps and provide efficiency improvements
- Coach and mentor operations by building technical skills, capabilities, and efficiencies
- Improve performance metrics and sustainability of assets
- Scale improvements through knowledge sharing across assets and platforms
- Learn platform equipment technologies and apply knowledge across the business
- Collaborate with operations across Georgia-Pacific’s North American facilities
Requirements:
- Knowledge and expertise of design, construction, operations, and maintenance of assets in the converting space
- 5+ years of experience in converting packaging equipment, including wrappers, bundlers, case packers, case sealers, baggers, and similar equipment, related to manufacturing tissue, towel, napkins, plates, and bowls
- Ability to read schematics and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and components
- Experience evaluating equipment or processes, developing solutions, and delivering equipment or training improvements
- Willing and able to travel up to 80% of the time, potentially including weekend travel
- Willing and able to wear necessary Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
- Willing and able to work flexible hours to support projects or assignments
- Proactive approach to problem-solving and researching solutions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong project management capability, leadership, and accountability
- Ability to support start-up/commissioning and troubleshoot converting equipment until performance metrics are achieved
- Ability to apply engineering and scientific principles to identify and resolve equipment runnability issues
- Ability to work independently with little supervision and direction
- Ability to facilitate and drive resolution of complex equipment problems
- Strong knowledge of maintenance and electrical methods and techniques
- Understanding of preventative/predictive techniques and Root Cause Failure Analysis
- Demonstrated team/group facilitation experience
