Job Description
Regulatory counsel advising Kraken's UK crypto, payments, and e-money operations. Supporting FCA engagement, licensing, compliance, and corporate transactions.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal support on cryptoasset, e-money, and payment services regulatory requirements
- Advise on account-access obligations and related operational compliance questions
- Support active licensing applications and UK licensing or registration workstreams
- Compile application materials and coordinate with outside counsel
- Provide regulatory support on corporate transactions and structural changes affecting UK entities
- Handle change-of-control notifications and corporate client migrations
- Support day-to-day regulator relationships for licensed entities
- Translate the UK Cryptoasset Regime, FCA rulebooks, AML/CTF, operational resilience, outsourcing, e-money, and payment-services regulations into actionable business guidance
- Advise on Payward's UK products, including Kraken Card, payments, and staking
- Partner with Compliance, Product, and senior leadership
- Own ongoing business-as-usual regulatory work and regulatory relationships
- Report into the EU/UK Regulatory Legal team
Requirements:
- Qualified lawyer: Solicitor or Barrister of England & Wales, or equivalent
- 6+ years' post-qualification experience in financial services regulatory law
- Experience gained at a regulated financial services institution or in law firm/private practice supporting such clients
- Demonstrated ability to independently own BAU regulatory workstreams
- Direct experience supporting FCA or equivalent regulator engagement, including notifications, information requests, and supervisory correspondence
- Substantive experience advising on the UK Cryptoasset Regime
- Substantive experience with UK e-money and payment services regulation, including account-access and open banking obligations
- Experience in AML/CTF, including related policies, controls, and regulatory expectations
- Experience advising on outsourcing arrangements and operational resilience compliance, including the FCA/PRA regime
- Outstanding analytical, drafting, and organisational skills
- Crisp, plain-English writing
- Ability to distill complex legal and regulatory issues into clear, actionable guidance for non-lawyer stakeholders
- Pragmatic, commercially accountable approach to legal and regulatory risk
- Ability to operate autonomously and own a broad, fast-moving BAU workload
- Familiarity with the UK's onshored MiFID regime is nice to have
- Experience supporting change-of-control notifications or other regulatory aspects of corporate transactions is nice to have
- Authentic interest in crypto and digital assets is nice to have
